Gamma rhythm communication between entorhinal cortex and dentate gyrus neuronal assemblies

چکیده

Brain region coordination in learning Gamma-frequency oscillations have been hypothesized as a physiological mechanism of interregional communication the brain. However, until now, all supporting data correlational and thus indirect. Fernández-Ruiz et al. examined gamma-frequency activity spike coupling between entorhinal cortex hippocampal dentate gyrus during after selective perturbation timing. They observed an integrated neuron, gamma-band, task-specific organization cortex–hippocampal circuits. These demonstrate that specific, projected oscillation patterns dynamically engage functionally related cell assemblies across brain regions manner. Science , this issue p. eabf3119

NMDA receptor-dependent switching between different gamma rhythm-generating microcircuits in entorhinal cortex.

Local circuits in the medial entorhinal cortex (mEC) and hippocampus generate gamma frequency population rhythms independently. Temporal interaction between these areas at gamma frequencies is implicated in memory-a phenomenon linked to activity of NMDA-subtype glutamate receptors. While blockade of NMDA receptors does not affect frequency of gamma rhythms in hippocampus, it exposes a second, l...

Dipole-like neuronal sources of theta rhythm in dorsal hippocampus, dentate gyrus and cingulate cortex of the urethane-anesthetized rat.

Spatial distribution of theta activity was investigated in the dorsal hippocampal formation and overlying neocortex of the urethane-anesthetized rat. Laminar phase profiles from semi-microelectrode penetartions showed approximately 180 degrees phase shifts combined with small amplitude values in stratum radiatum of CA1, instratum moleculare of the dentate gyrus and in layer V/VI of the cingulat...

Multiple cholinergic markers are unexpectedly not altered in the rat dentate gyrus following entorhinal cortex lesions.

Since major cholinergic deficits are observed in Alzheimer's disease, the development of models to study possible cholinergic plasticity has generated great interest. In this regard, it has been shown that lesions of the entorhinal cortex, which sends glutamatergic projections to the hippocampus, promote the sprouting and plasticity of presumptive cholinergic septohippocampal fibers in the dent...

Effects of male phermoneses on neuronal morphology in the dentate gyrus of hippocampus of female Mice

Background & Aims: Neurogenesis in the adult mammal brain occurs throughout life. Adult neurogenesis has been clearly demonstrated in the sub granular zone (SGZ) of the dentate gyrus (DG) in the hippocampus. Pheromones that plays an essential role in the development of the central nervous system. The male pheromones are involved in regulating neurogenesis in both the olfactory bulb and hippocam...

An analysis of entorhinal cortex projections to the dentate gyrus, hippocampus, and subiculum of the neonatal macaque monkey.

The entorhinal cortex is the primary interface between the hippocampal formation and neocortical sources of sensory information. Although much is known about the cells of origin, termination patterns, and topography of the entorhinal projections to other fields of the adult hippocampal formation, very little is known about the development of these pathways, particularly in the human or nonhuman...
